How Can I Know If My Case Will Go To Trial in DC?

Peter Odom: That’s one of the most important decisions that you will have to discuss with your lawyer to decide what your best defenses are, what your investigation reveals, and how strong or how weak the prosecutor’s evidence is. All of these facts get taken into account when your attorney decides to make a recommendation as to whether or not to go to trial. Ultimately, you, the defendant, are the one who decides if you want to take your case to trial or if you don’t.

Now, one of the most important discussions you can have with your lawyer is how does a lawyer see the evidence, how do they see the facts of the case, what are your strongest points, what are your weakest points, and what would the strategy be to take the case to trial.
